Dust 514 – Eve Online for Consoles

August 18, 2009

Dust 514

CCP have announced today a new Eve Online related project; Dust 514. The information we have so far is that it will be primarily a console release, includes FPS, RTS and MMO mechanics and interacts directly with the PC spearhead – Eve Online.

The Kotaku news post attached the following images:

The interesting part is the direct interaction with Eve Online, maybe this has something to do with the Walking in Stations ongoing development? The above pictures sure could point to that. Read the GamesIndustry.biz article for more, all will be revealed officially at CCPs fan-fest in October.

Update: I found this;

TF2 Update News Day 2 – King of the Hill arrives.

August 13, 2009

koth1

The Team Fortress 2 Update continues, with a new game mode announced today alongside a new map. The new game mode is King of the Hill – a multiplayer mode which is surely familiar to anybody who plays multiplayer FPS games. Essentially, one team takes hold of a point, and has to stop the other team from taking it away from them. There’s a timer of three minutes which counts down for the duration of your teams’ occupation of the point, and the same for the other team. Essentially, the first teams’ timer to reach zero wins.

With this news comes the announcement of a new map, this time set in a snowy setting, specifically designed for the new mode along with the arena maps Sawmill and Nucleus which have been modified for the new mode.

TF2 Update Inbound, Hats Are The New Old Hats

August 12, 2009

It doesn’t seem long since the mighty Sniper vs. Spy update, but apparently Valve have decided to shake things up again with a new ‘classless’ update for Team Fortress 2. What that essentially means is that the update will have no specific class in mind – and therefore all classes will get something nifty. The first day of update news is up, and we can be expecting 18 new hats and a new Arena level to be arriving with the update. We’ll keep you posted with the next few days of news.

Foreign Legion: Buckets Of Blood Review

August 5, 2009

Well here’s an odd little distraction – Foreign Legion: Buckets of Blood arrived on Steam yesterday. I’d not heard anything about it, but the cheap price of £5.24 (25% off the normal price) and the rather nice simplistic art style persuaded me to drop the money and give it a go. Obviously, from the Steam description it wasn’t going to be the most subtle of games, but was it worth the money?

The Adventures of Captain Major in Oblivion – Part 3: A Treasure Trove Of Fun

July 25, 2009

cmio1

Previously on The Adventures of Captain Major… A fish was beaten to death and the people of Aleswell were saved from a minor annoyance in Is All Well in Aleswell?, and Captain Major’s trusty steed Speedo is mercilessly slaughtered by marauders on the way to Bravil in Havok on the Highway!

I had made it to Bravil, where apparently a spell called Kill was being sold by a local spell merchant. Seeing as this was the main reason for my visit to Bravil, I made it my first item of business to find out who was selling the spell, and to purchase it. I’d not made a lot of money so far as Captain Major, but before I became a superhero, I had procured a tidy sum of money which I could dip into now. I soon found the shop, which gave me the choice of two spells in the Kill catagory – Weak and Moderate.

Left 4 Dead 2 News: Swamp Fever

July 24, 2009

l4d21

Every so often we at the Thoughtshake feel the need to give some kind of coverage to current news in the video game world. It doesn’t happen often, but we realise that some people like to get their news from an obscure and poorly researched resource rather than one of the major gaming sites around. We appreciate that, but that in turn makes it hard for us to find stuff out without actually going to those big sites and getting the facts directly from them. Because we don’t get invited to the video games parties.

Anyway, Left 4 Dead 2 news has surfaced from Comic-Con – this time showing off a new campaign called Swamp Fever, and a new special infected called the Spitter. Continuing to walk the line between creepy and comical, the Spitter is an odd looking creature which spits toxic goo which hurts a lot should it hit a player, and once it hits the ground it stays there hurting anyone who crosses it again. This effectively means that the survivors will be unable to just hide in a closet shooting out, as the toxic goo will force them into the open, and possibly scatter them for the other infected to pick off.

It all sounds very good, and my faith remains in Valve to pull this off with similar success to Left For Dead 1. There are more pics of the Swamp and things at Planet Half-Life.

The Adventures of Captain Major in Oblivion – Part 2: Havok On The Highway

July 21, 2009

Previously, on The Adventures of Captain Major… A horse is stolen, a fish is beaten to death, some invisible folks are heard but not seen, then both heard and seen as Captain Major saves the day. The horse is named Speedo. Read it here. This is a kind of intermission between adventures, sadly, as nothing much happened. Why post it, you say? Be quiet, you.

Despite my victory at what people (well, me) were already calling the battle for Aleswell, I had come into something of an existential funk. Sure, I had saved an entire town from the minor annoyance of being invisible, but was was it all for? I had not received any kind of rewards thus far on my journeys, and to be honest the whole selfless hero thing really wasn’t my style. I needed some kind of payment for my troubles else it wouldn’t be worth it. I thought next time I would ask for the money up front.
