Here’s a game worth keeping your eyes on over the next week (it comes out a week yesterday) – a new creation from the creationeers behind The Graveyard, The Path sees you take control of one of six girls, with the goal of the game being to reach the cottage about one minute down the path. This might be the technical goal for the game, but where the real reason to buy this game comes in is when you wonder off the path, exploring the woods to either side. The area is littered with areas that affect the character in different ways, all of which are available to explore.
There is no reward for doing this, other than the areas themselves, so while those used to rail shooters will undoubtedly miss the point, those more taken to exploration will fall in love with the absolutely free-form nature of the game, presented more as interactive art than a game. This, as you might have gathered from my previous posts, is something I’m very interested in when talking about games. I’ve yet to play it, having ot been invited in for a playtest due to some huge oversight by the developers, presumably, but everything I’ve seen makes me think that this game is going to be exactly what I’m hoping it will be.
In any case, it’s coming out within a week, but until then get yourself in the mood by playing The Graveyard, now available on Steam, and other places probably.
